Backlink snapshots with trends, a free on-page audit from the built-in crawler, and organic keyword lists.
Google Search Console and GA, connected once and shown next to everything else.

First run profiles your site and suggests competitors. A $5 balance is plenty to start.
The worker builds rankings, research, and audits, then keeps the opportunity list fresh.
Search is moving into AI answers. Better Search Lab scans Perplexity, ChatGPT and Gemini every week for the queries that matter to you — and tells you whether you're named, whether you're cited, and who's getting the mention when you're not.
How AI visibility works
DataForSEO is the only thing you need. Everything else is optional, and configured inside the app.

The whole thing is on GitLab under AGPL-3.0. There's also a Model Context Protocol server, so your coding agent can query your data read-only — one npx command, straight from the release download.
# read-only tools over your own data

Yes. Better Search Lab is open source under the AGPL-3.0 license. There are no seats, tiers, or credits. You pay only DataForSEO for the search data it fetches, on pay-as-you-go pricing, and the app shows exactly what you spend.
Those are hosted subscriptions billed per seat per month. Better Search Lab is software you run yourself: your data stays on your server, you pay only the underlying data cost, and you can read and modify the source. It also measures AI-answer visibility, which most classic tools don't.
On your own machine or server, in your own Postgres database. Better Search Lab is self-hosted; nothing is sent to us. The only outbound calls are to the data providers you connect.
Free, open source, and yours to keep.
